What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a nonsurgical technique that triggers the natural production of collagen and elastin in the skin, two nutrients that help boost the health and appearance of your complexion. Commonly combined with other skin treatments, such as vitamin serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), microneedling at our Frisco, TX practice can help minimize scars, pores, stretch marks, and other skin flaws. This process safely creates micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates the production of collagen to repair and tighten its appearance.

The most effective type of microneedling is combined with radiofrequency therapy, called the Scarlet from AMP (Aesthetic Management Partners). This device is a revolution in the skin industry. The Scarlet utilizes RF ad microneedling to its full potential, producing beautifully smooth and tight results. Scarlet can be used all over the body, including the face, stomach, arms, and chest. Make an appointment with a certified nurse injector for a consultation at Johnson Family Medical in Frisco, TX to learn more about minimally invasive skin rejuvenation with microneedling and Scarlet!

Am I A Candidate For Microneedling?

You may benefit from microneedling treatments if you experience light to mild complexion problems, like a decrease in skin firmness or an uneven texture. Microneedling procedures may also reduce the look of scars, pores, and stretch marks. You must be willing to wait before seeing improvements from your microneedling treatment since the elastin and collagen require some time to have an effect on the skin, but you will develop natural-looking results and gain healthier overall skin.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Collagen induction therapy is provided in one of our comfortable procedure rooms at Johnson Family Medical and typically takes about 30 – 60 minutes to complete. Once your skin has been cleaned, we will pass a microneedling handpiece over the target areas to trigger new collagen production. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or another type of serum may then be applied so the nutrients can penetrate deeper into your skin. You should start to notice improvements over the next 1 – 2 months as the collagen and elastin supplies in your skin begin to increase. A series of treatments may be recommended to help keep your skin smoother, firmer, and brighter.

Microneedling FAQ

How much does microneedling cost?
During your initial consultation, Katherine Johnson, MSN, RN, FNP-C, or an experienced member of her team will analyze your skin and then develop your custom plan. Once this is complete, they will go over your treatment costs and what to expect during the procedure. Johnson Family Medical frequently offers discounts on treatment packages, so be sure to ask about current deals during your consultation.

What exactly is microneedling?
Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure to improve the health of your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps keep your skin supple, smooth, and tight. Over time, your natural supply of collagen is reduced, and your skin gets less elastic and thin. Microneedling causes tiny wounds in your skin. These micro-injuries force your skin to increase its collagen production and generate new skin cell growth. Once healed, your complexion appears firmer, brighter, and healthier.

Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
In the process of microneedling, channels are created that make it easier for treatments to penetrate the deeper layers. This is why microneedling is commonly performed with other skin treatments, such as vitamin-rich serums or PRP (platelet-rich plasma). Microneedling with PRP is more commonly known as the vampire facial. In your initial consultation, we will talk about which treatments would enhance your microneedling and which would most benefit your skin.

How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Usually, patients get 3 – 6 treatments to achieve optimal results. However, how many sessions you require will vary based on your goals and the condition of your skin. Microneedling may be done every 4 – 6 weeks. During your initial consultation, we can estimate the number of treatments you might want after assessing your skin and listening to your goals. Once you have reached your goal, we recommend getting maintenance treatments every six months.

Is microneedling safe for everyone?
On the whole, microneedling is safe for all skin types and tones. Since the skin injuries created are so small, there are very few side effects afterward. Microneedling can be applied to most areas of skin, including the face, arms, neck, chest, and legs. Microneedling is not recommended if you have been on Accutane recently, plus if you have herpes simplex, an open wound, or an active skin infection. Additionally, you may not be a candidate for microneedling if you are pregnant, nursing, or getting radiation treatments.
